Job hunting

I have been on the unemployment train for a couple of months now, with its many passengers. I apply for jobs every week as required but all I get are automatic emails from the company that I am sure everyone else has seen that are in my shoes. I am grateful for unemployment but I am ready to get back into the work force and push my business futher. I just had to get that out.

Women in the work place

I now find that more women are taking over the work force by storm. The whole wife staying at home while the husband is the bread-winner role has changed. What has happened, not that it is wrong or anything but what made it change? I guess that more women’s rights and opportunities came about and got our wheels turning.

Women are not just secretaries anymore, we are CEO’s and executive vice presidents and everything else in between. I am feeling that “I am woman hear me roar”, it is very exciting. There is still that work place drama in companies that show no growth potential for its employee’s but more or less the work place for women has been more serious. How will this role change for men and women? Will there even be a role anymore in 10 to 20 years from now? What is your opinion?

Laid off now what?

Being laid off has been a constant cycle lately since the economy has been dumped on. I am not here to point fingers but yes there were many mistakes that were made along the way that eventually caught up with us. Well let me introduce myself, my name is Jennifer and I use to work as a contractor for a minority company; that happened to lay off 40 percent of its employees in one government agency alone. The rumor mill was going on way before the chopping began, but I was not surprised. This all sounds to familiar for many families across America and it is still going on.

This is the part when the story flips; I wasn’t angry with the company that I worked for, I was kind of relieved that I was leaving. I had enough of the job and started my own business when my last nerve was stepped on. I knew this time I had something to fall back on and most importantly something I enjoyed doing which is baking. My story is not a success story but a beginning of a new life and learning about who I am.

I packed my things and emptied my office three weeks prior to my last day at work and said my good byes. I knew this was going to be a journey, I knew I was turning a new leaf. This was a sign from the gods saying that they understood my frustrations and excitement,but I knew it wasn’t gong to be easy. I was going to persue my business full-time, wow; I thought I was going to leave my job on my own terms for the business ,but instead the job left me to the business. Baking Bread LLC has been and still is a learning experience for me but I am a fighter and the journey is still continuing.

Well the questions is, now what? What do I do, no one seems to be hiring for jobs and I have to pay my mortgage, rent, bills ect.. I have to work harder than before but now I am doing it for me. You can only do what you are good at, find something that makes you happy that can make you money and help others. I am sure there is a market for what ever you persue. Being a stay at home mom and business woman,where is the balance.

Being a stay at home mom has it’s many challenges which include, cleaning, cooking, taking care of the child or children and hardly any time for the mom. This day in age the roles are reversing as more women are in the work force and some men choose to or have to stay at home and maintain the home front. Now with having young children myself, I find that I am more uptight when my children are at home with me, because of the yelling and screaming and constant bickering. How do you conduct business and keep the family going and not fall apart? I have heard prioritize and making a schedule is the way to go, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out all the time.

I find that I only get work done when they are taking their nap, or when my husband takes them off of my hands or when they go to bed at night. Women fortunately have to gift of being multi-taskers we have the ability to do tons of things at once and block the rest of the world out of our minds. This can also be a bad thing because we eventually get burnt out at times which can cause over flowing frustration.

When being a business woman who primarily runs their business from home and has children it is good to prioritize your time if you have young children, non school aged. You have more freedom as your children get older and then you can get them involved ,so that they can get a general idea on what you do. I find that if you involve your children in the knowledge of your business by explaining the importance and how the family benefits ,they will respect your business and your space which will give you more peace of mind. Children are very smart, if you take them seriously enough you might be surprised, and they might give you some ideas. I explain to my children when people order from our website www.bakingbreadllc.com, that I have to bake and ship what the customer orders. They now understand the importance of my business and now advertise to strangers about what we sell, it is so cute and the shows the beginning of young entrepreneurs. I think keeping everyone in the family involved and aware helps keep some balance.
